Can I confess something? I’m SO over winter and snow and cold and boots and mitts and dry skin and all of it really… I can’t wait for the weather to warm up and for the snow to be gone. It now feels like the weather is being spiteful on purpose. It warms up for a day and then it’s freezing again. Spite-ful.
In happier news I was asked to speak at an International Day of Women networking event and I am so excited (but also a bit nervous)! I want to look and feel my best for the event, but with my ragged cuticles, dry and flaking skin and general frazzled state I’m feeling like I’m not going to make the best first impression. DIY Spa day!
I’ve made all of my own spa treatments, I’ve set aside time to relax and de-stress and I’m putting my to-do list on hold for an hour to enjoy this experience.
I’ve made Lemon Sugar scrub for my hands and feet, Oatmeal Horchata bath milk (it smells so good!) and as a final treat I made a strawberry smoothie masque for my face. All of the treatments came from my kitchen and all of it was very easy to make. At the closest local salon a Manicure and Facial would be $75.00 but that includes a professional that actually knows what they are doing, so I've added $70.00 to the 52 Weeks of Free account as a compromise. I’ll include the recipes below. And now I’m off to enjoy a little R&R and dream of spring.
Strawberry smoothie masque
4 ripe strawberries
½ of a ripe banana
2 tbsp. Oatmeal
Throw everything in a blender and blend until smooth-ish.
Apply to your face, rub gently and rinse off when it is almost dry.
Oatmeal Horchata Bath Milk
½ c oatmeal
2 c water or milk
1 tsp on cinnamon
2 tbsp. of honey
Mix all the ingredients in a blender until smooth.
Pour in to a warm tub.
I blended the mixture to make sure I didn’t gum up my drain pipes with raw oats, but if you’d prefer not to put the oatmeal down the drain you could also put it in an old stocking or some cheesecloth tied in a pouch.
Lemon Sugar scrub
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp oil (I used avocado but I think you could use olive oil as well)
1 tsp of lemon juice
Grated zest from ½ a lemon
Mix it all together
Gently massage it in to your hands and rinse off. Bonus points for doing it after a nice long soak!
