It all starts with a small change...

Imagine your debt repayment as an avalanche…

Debt repayment avalanche!
Debt repayment avalanche!

It starts off with a single change in the environment that in turn starts off a chain reaction.

The smallest grain of snow shifts… By itself it would have no discernible impact, but it shifts the snow around it as it moves…

The first step in the chain reaction
It all starts with a single snow flake

As those small shifts start impacting more and more snow, the avalanche starts gaining more and more momentum, until a wave of snow goes roaring down the mountain obliterating the evil genius’ lair in the valley below!

That is how the Avalanche debt repayment method works. You figure out the minimum payments for all of your debts and their interest rates. Once you’ve paid your minimums, you start with the debt that has the highest interest rate and you put every spare dollar you can find against it. Then once it’s paid off you take that money that was going against the first debt, PLUS the minimum payment on the next highest interest rate and use that to pay the next debt. As you pay off debts the amount of money you can put towards the next debt gets bigger and bigger, making the debt repayments go quicker and quicker. If you think of them as the lairs you can get the satisfying visual of your avalanche destroying them one at a time…

But all avalanches start with that tiny change in the environment… It could be the decision to make a change to your daily lunch habits to free up cash, it could be the realization that you are DONE with waking up in the wee hours of the morning worrying about debt, or it could be a massive internal shift in your understanding of freedom. Without that critical first change the can be no avalanche.
